Alex and Scott Caan took part in the Hawaii 5-0 panel during the Television Critics Association Press Tour today. We are starting to get a lot of coverage of the event.

The following is from Danielle Frankel at The Wrap:

“I don’t want to take anything away from any of the shows I’ve done,” O’Loughlin told TV journalists on hand for a noontime “Five-O” panel at TCA Wednesday. “But there’s a reason why things work and don’t work in television … and if this one doesn’t go, I’m completely bewildered. I have no idea what works on television at all.”

“I remember the old show from when I was a kid, and I remember when it was taken off the air,” says O’Loughlin. “This is a not a remake. We’re not picking up where they left off. It's a reboot. The characters are different from the old show. In the old show, you didn’t know much about [McGarrett], but in our pilot you learn about my Steve McGarrett.”

CBS has posted a video showing the recording session for the new theme for Hawaii 5-0

Grace Park, Daniel Dae Kim, showrunner Peter Lenkov and writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman took part in the Hawaii 5-0 Panel at the San Diego Comic-con 2010 yesterday. (Alex and Scott Caan had to stay in Hawaii to film)

Ugo.com has a very good article on the Hawaii-50 panel, including the following tidbit on Alex's casting as Steve McGarret:

On the casting of O'Laughlin and Caan, showrunner Peter Lenkov felt the actor really embodied the "guy who always gets his man" persona that the character called for. They were not interested in someone who could do an amazing Jack Lord impression. The fact that O'Laughlin is 'a wild fan of the original show" also helped in the casting process.

CBS has officially announced premiere dates for this fall, and as suspected, Hawaii 5-0 will premiere on Monday September 20th.
